Victorian Apartment Renewal
Restoring timeless charm with modern comfort and style.

This Victorian apartment renewal project was a delicate balance between preservation and transformation. The original space had beautiful period features — high ceilings, ornate cornices, and sash windows — but suffered from poor layout, outdated electrical systems, and a cramped kitchen. Our goal was to respect the building's heritage while introducing contemporary functionality. We carefully restored original details that told the story of the era, then reimagined the interior flow for modern family living. The result is a home where old-world elegance meets everyday practicality. Every room now breathes with light, space, and purpose, without losing the soul of its Victorian origins.
Honoring the past. Designing for the way you live today.
The layout was completely reorganized to improve natural light and movement between rooms. We removed non-structural walls to connect the living and dining areas, creating an open yet intimate gathering space. The kitchen was relocated to a brighter corner, fitted with custom cabinetry that echoes Victorian detailing but offers modern storage solutions. Original floorboards were salvaged and restored, while new energy efficient windows were discreetly installed to preserve the facade's character. Every decision balanced heritage guidelines with the client's desire for a warm, functional, and low maintenance home.

Preserving Original Features
The apartment's original cornices, ceiling roses, and marble fireplaces were carefully restored by skilled craftsmen. Rather than covering them up, we made these elements the focal points of each room. Damaged sections were repaired using traditional techniques and lime based plasters to match the period. The sash windows were refurbished with hidden weather sealing to improve insulation without changing their external appearance. This approach retained the apartment's historical authenticity while significantly improving thermal performance and comfort.
Modern Interventions That Fit
New additions were designed to sit comfortably alongside the old. The kitchen features shaker style cabinets in a soft muted green, brass hardware, and natural stone countertops — a nod to Victorian craftsmanship but clearly of our time. The bathroom was completely rebuilt with a clawfoot tub, subway tiles, and heated floors hidden beneath classic patterns. Recessed lighting was kept minimal to avoid cluttering the ornate ceilings. These modern interventions never compete with the original architecture.
A Home Reimagined For Life
This Victorian apartment is no longer a museum piece or a drafty old flat. It is a warm, efficient, and joyful home designed for real life. The clients now enjoy a bright open kitchen where the family gathers each morning, a quiet reading nook by the restored sash window, and a spacious living room that flows naturally into the dining area for entertaining guests. Storage was thoughtfully integrated throughout — hidden behind mirrored panels in the hallway, under window seats, and within custom built wardrobes that match the period aesthetic. The renovation also improved the apartment's energy performance dramatically. New insulation in the walls and roof, double glazed sash windows, and efficient heating systems have reduced energy bills while making every room comfortable year round. Perhaps most importantly, the apartment still feels like a Victorian home. Its soul remains intact. The ornate ceilings still draw your eye upward. The fireplaces still anchor the rooms. But now, every corner serves a purpose. Every detail supports the way the family actually lives. That is the true success of this renewal — not choosing between old and new, but letting each make the other better.
