Modern Villa Transformation

From outdated family home to sleek, contemporary sanctuary.

This modern villa transformation completely reimagined a late 1990s family home that had aged poorly. Dark interiors, compartmentalized rooms, and dated finishes made the villa feel cramped and disconnected from its beautiful surrounding garden. The owners dreamed of a light filled, open plan home that embraced indoor outdoor living. Our solution was a dramatic overhaul — removing walls, expanding window openings, and reconfiguring the entire ground floor layout. We introduced clean lines, natural materials, and smart home technology throughout. The result is a stunning contemporary villa that feels spacious, calm, and deeply connected to nature. Every room now serves a purpose, flows effortlessly into the next, and frames a view worth pausing for.

Reimagining space. Redefining how a modern family lives.

The transformation focused on opening up the villa's core. We removed the staircase wall and replaced it with a floating steel and timber design that acts as a sculptural centerpiece. The kitchen, dining, and living areas were merged into one continuous space, punctuated by floor to ceiling glass sliding doors. These doors disappear completely into wall cavities, erasing the boundary between inside and out. A new covered terrace extends the living area into the garden, creating shade for hot summer days. Polished concrete floors run throughout, providing thermal mass and visual continuity.

Light As A Material

Natural light was the most powerful tool in this transformation. Original windows were small and poorly positioned, leaving rooms shadowy even at midday. We installed new full height glazing across the rear facade, along with carefully placed skylights in the kitchen and upstairs hallway. A central light well was cut through the second floor, bringing sunshine down to the ground level entry. Reflective white walls and ceilings bounce light deeper into the villa, eliminating dark corners entirely. Even the staircase was designed to allow light to pass between treads. The villa now feels radically different — bright, uplifting, and constantly changing with the sun's path. The owners describe mornings as golden and evenings as softly glowing, a luxury they never knew they were missing.

Indoor Outdoor Living Redefined

This villa now breathes with the garden. The new terrace features a built in outdoor kitchen, dining area, and a fire pit for cooler evenings. Sliding glass panels can be fully opened, allowing the interior living space to double in size during parties. We also added a small pool with a wooden deck, visible from the main living area through the glass facade. Landscaping was simplified and modernized — ornamental grasses, olive trees, and gravel paths replace the old overgrown lawn. A covered walkway connects the villa to a new garden studio, perfect for working from home. The owners now live between inside and outside, using both equally throughout the year. Rainy days feel cozy behind the glass. Sunny days invite everyone outdoors. The villa has become a true sanctuary, responsive to weather, season, and mood.

Every Detail Considered, Nothing Wasted

This modern villa transformation succeeded because no detail was overlooked. Behind the minimalist beauty lies thoughtful function. The new underfloor heating keeps every room warm in winter without radiators cluttering walls. Cooling runs through the same system, hidden and silent. Smart home technology controls lighting, blinds, temperature, and music from a single panel or voice command. Storage was integrated discreetly everywhere — floor to ceiling cabinets in the hallway, a hidden pantry behind the kitchen backsplash, and built in wardrobes in every bedroom that look like walls. The material palette was chosen for durability as much as beauty. Polished concrete needs no replacement. Timber cladding ages gracefully. Stone countertops resist stains and heat. The owners now spend less time maintaining and more time enjoying. But the greatest success is how the villa feels. Quiet but not cold. Minimal but warm. Open but still intimate. Guests often ask when the villa was built, surprised to learn it is a transformation of an older home. For the owners, daily life has been transformed too. Morning coffee in the sunlit kitchen. Afternoon swims between work calls. Evening dinners under the stars on the terrace. This is no longer just a house. It is how they want to live.
